Il Divin Codino

After 6 years of retirement Roberto Baggio is unhooking his boots! The Italian Football Federation has hired him as Technical Director for the national team which will entitle him in advising coaches and helping new talent development.

His nickname, Il Divin Cordino means The Divine Ponytail for his famous hair style and God like performances. I was only 8 when I first watched him play during World Cup 94. He was magical on the pitch. People only remember him for the penalty he missed during the final against Brazil. I could remember the disappointment on my parents face when we saw the ball go over the net. But for me, his entire World Cup performance is the reason and moment I fell in love with him and football on a whole other level. Divin Codino, mai nessuno come te!

Roberto Baggio was UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup top scorer in 1990-91, European Footballer of the Year (Ballon d’Or/Golden Ball) in 1993, and FIFA World Player of the Year 1993. He has 318 goals in all competitions, 76 goals from 91 penalties (best all time record in Italy), 32 goals in European competitions, and 9 goals in World Cup finals (Italia 90, USA 94, France 98). How could you not love him?

Made In New York

I bought this FWK Engineered Garments summer dress back when there was still snow on the ground. Even though it’s been sitting in my closet for months, waiting for the summer… it was well worth the wait.

I’m speechless. Probably the worse football/soccer interview I’ve ever seen.

Isle Knit Pocket T-Shirt

Recently received this Visvim pocket tee in the mail. I’ve noticed that t-shirts have faded out of my closet a long time ago, so this is a first time in a long time for me. The tee features a heavy gauge fair isle knit pocket, which is absolutely pretty. Even though this is originally a men’s piece, I think the knit pocket gives it a feminine kick.

Bicycle Thieves (1948)

Bicycle Thieves (Lardi di biciclette) is a neorealist movie directed by Vittorio De Sica. The Italian film tells the story of a lower class family during the post-war. Antonio and his son Bruno search the streets of Rome to retrieve their stolen bike. The bicycle means everything to Antonio, because without it he could no longer work. Eventually he tries to do the same as what was done to him. This movie is frequently on critics’ and directors’ lists of the best films ever made. It was placed in the top 10 twice as the greatest ever made in Sight & Sound’s directors’ poll. Lardi di biciclette is by far one of my favorite black and white Italian movie.

Men’s Accessories For Her

July 8th, 2010 2 comments

More often than not I find myself intrigued by men’s accessories. I am not sure if it’s the rawness of the silver jewelry labels use or the quality of the handcrafted leather goods from the brands that makes it appealing for me. If you happen to feel the same way about your man’s accessories, or if you want to treat your girl with something you love that she might like, here are a few of my suggestions:

1. Hollywood Trading Company Rhinestone Bracelet – Known for their distinctive quality of hand-crafted leather belts which are often identified with vintage Americana. While some of their LA crafted belts wont fit the waist of a lady, there is always the Rhinestone leather bracelet to make up for it.

2. Self Edge Ring – The feather ring is a favorite amongst most girls. Comes in 925 sterling silver or silver/gold, fully hand carved, and adjustable to fit on any of her fingers. Best part is it’s produced by HMace Navajo, over 25 years as a silversmith.

3. Makr Flap Wallet – We generally like big wallets, but for evening purses, we’ll carry a smaller one. Makr offer Horween leather wallets, hand sewn with durable natural colored nylon thread. Offered in a variety of colors that are all hand edge burnished and painted.

4. Goro’s Pendant – My personal favorite of the bunch. They are a renowned name in Japan with jewelry and leather accessories that have a Native American-inspired look. I always think it should be worn with two of these pendants.

5. Tanner Goods Skinny Belt – Constructed from 11 oz. vegetable dyed English Bridle leather with edges that have been brushed and waxed by hand. The skinny belt is always better for girls to wear as opposed to their standard cut. Just punch in a few more holes and it should fit perfectly. Also available in different colors.

6. Visvim Homer Tote – This last one needs no formal introduction. The Homer is offered in a variety of colors and unique materials whether it be canvas, elk, or veggie. The tote has become a staple piece that has been apart of each Visvim collection.

Workspace: Pasquale

I make it a point to spend time with my grandparents at least once a week. I have a very special relationship with them because they have always been there for me. My Nonno (grandfather) has been a hard worker all his life. From being a farmer in a small village in Italy and moving to North America for a better life, he has done well to keep Italian traditions in the family.

His workspace is 35 years old, and as time passes he doesn’t have the strength to use it as much as he used to. This is where he built things, made wine, fresh cheese, salsiccia calabrese, fixed my bike, and more. Now that I am older, these memories has made me appreciate him and all that he does so much more.

Frye Jacey Studded Huarache

My previous pair of woven leather sandals broke down on me which sent me off browsing for a new pair. It just so happened that Frye had their version of what I wanted… but made of much higher quality materials and a little extra in detailing (note the subtle studs). I opted for the raw handcrafted leather hoping they would age beautifully. I will update once they show some signs of wear.
