MM6

Maison Martin Margiela just dropped a few new fall pieces from their MM6 collection. MM6 always draw their inspirations from casual moments of life. Their fall collection comes from several influences – from a motorcycle look, elements of workwear, to reworking classics in unusual fabrics. My personal favorite is the first look. I would love to own that sweater/hat combo. View the rest of the collection here.

The new MM6 collection is now available in Maison Martin Margiela stores.

Dolce Far Niente

One of my favorite things to do on a beautiful day is to bike ride by the Lachine Canal. The bike path is the oldest and most popular in the city. From Bonaventure Expressway west of the Old Port as far as Chemin du Musée in Lachine is where the path can take you.

Just enjoying the sweetness of nothing.

The canal is actually a historical site. It gets its name from the French word for China (La Chine). The European explorers dreamt of finding a route from New France (Montreal) to the Western Sea and there on to China.

The canal is now only used for small boats.

Biking in my hearty magazine Black Magic Woman tank.

Paolo Conte

Italian jazz singer Paolo Conte has been my choice of music this week. A poet, painter, and lawyer, Conte first got recognized for his talent in music in the 60′s and gained considerable success throughout Europe. Notable for his raspy, grainy voice and dreamy sometimes melancholic lyrics. I can easily see his songs being used as samples.

Listen to him here and here.

Tiramisu With Savoiardi

August 9th, 2010 7 comments

The urge to make Tiramisu came from a recent conversation I had with a friend explaining how it had been a very long time since I enjoyed the real version of the cake. Bakeries and restaurant in North America make it with sponge and not with savoiardi (lady fingers) cookies. Lady fingers are light yet sweet cookies shaped as a  fat finger. We usually accompany them with ice cream, puddings and other desserts. I don’t really know why we’ve started replacing the cookies with sponge but my boy Stefano from Italy couldn’t help but laugh and shake his head when I told him about it. So I made the cake with savoiardi and brought it work for everyone to enjoy.
